Mornings are my favorite time of day. Ideally they should start at just after dawn with much scratching behind the ears, but sometimes the human is resistant at this time of day. It is one of her failings I am learning to overcome.

She also moves around when she sleeps. I don't know why.

Later there are scratches behind the ears and it is good.

But not too much.

When the human gets up I find myself suddenly hungry. Strange that it does not happen before this, a seemingly arbitrary event. I endeavor to be patient, but I am only one cat and even my very large supply of forbearance has its limits. Besides, it occurs to me that the human does not know that I am hungry. Otherwise surely she would have already fed me.

Waiting.

Sometimes I help the human do the dishes. It’s difficult to tell, but I think she appreciates it.

We sit together on the futon and I allow her to pet me. Then she takes a very long time walking back and forth across the apartment. I try to figure out why, but at this point I am nearly wasting away. I can only wait, my faith tried but still unshaken.

And then it happens! Oh, glorious food. It is not freshly killed bird, but I understand.

While I am eating the human abandons me. It’s not that I mind; I’m sure she’s very busy doing unimportant human things… but it is a cruel trick. I will spend the day waiting patiently for her return so that she may feed me again.

  2. I am enjoying reading all about you, Lucia! You probably don't remember me, but I took you to your first vet appointment and as a reward I got to name you. It sounds like you are having fun at your foster home and doing a good job taming your human.
